( the perfect levis / summer hair )

while thrifting in kelowna, B.C i took a peek through the mens jeans section...little did i know i'd be finding the perfect levis...great colour, perfectly distressed and they fit me like a glove!

best of all, instead of paying $75-$100 on etsy (or any other over-priced vintage store) i paid a whole $4.99 for them!! they used to be pants, but i quickly cut them into the perfect lengthed shorts...i've been waiting my whole life for these shorts...okay, maybe i'm exaggerating, but only a tad!

& like most levis, they hug my bum perfectly.
i've been wearing them a ton since i got back from my trip and yesterday,i wore this outfit to work at H&M...

white button up - H&M

black tube top - H&M

levis - thrifted

turquoise ring - skirt

perfect diamond ring - peoples (gift from mikey)

black studded bracelet - c/o blowfish shoes

braided leather bracelet - thomas sabo

magnetic bracelet - gift from my mum

& i've been styling my hair like this the past few days as it's been far too hot out for long, black hair...

just put in a braid on one side (or both) twist hair into bun and bobby pin into place. usually by the end of the day, the bun is a little on the messy side but i prefer that look anyways.

( things you may not know - a great read! )

a thoughtful post from ryan o'connell

"You might not know how to be assertive in restaurants, in movie theatres, with brokers, or your boss. Your parents do though. When you go out to dinner together and their steak isn’t cooked to their liking, they won’t hesitate in letting the waiter know it. They will send their dish back while you’re eating your barely-cooked halibut, worrying about food poisoning, but are too scared to make a fuss. You might not know how to send a steak back or negotiate salaries or save a seat with conviction because you don’t know what it feels like to be old. Your parents have been on this earth much longer than you. They’ve experienced a lot of headaches, a lot of losses, and it has all resulted into them not giving a shit about anything. They’re not worrying about offending anyone over a crappy steak. For Christ’s sake, they might have a hernia.

You might not know the importance of money yet. You spend your paycheck on cabs, falafel and ugly rings from street vendors and are always left with ten dollars to last you three days. You wonder how you could spend so much money without ever feeling like you’ve lived lavishly. You can’t imagine a savings account, a 401k. How does anyone do it? You really don’t know. When will you know?

You might not know how to let someone love you yet. You think you do, think you’ve been doing it right all these years with your distant lovers, your fair-weather friends, your passive aggressive ex. But you don’t. You picked the ones who were unable to love you back, who wouldn’t pick you up from the airport, or hear about your awful day at work. Remember that one relationship you had where the person was kind and intuitive and would’ve picked you up from anywhere had you asked them? They were different from the others because they actually had the capacity to love you. You knew this though and that’s why you dumped them almost immediately. You didn’t know that they were all you needed to make you happy. You were so keen on being miserable. When will you know what you already know?

You might not know how to let go of things of yet. You avoid certain streets, restaurants and bars because they remind you of something good that you lost. You wonder how anyone could ever forget and move on from something so wonderful. How do people let things die? How do they go into the next phase of their lives and not become crippled whenever they pass their old apartment, the Jack In The Box on Sunset, or that 7-11 you hung out in front of once for five hours talking with your friends. How?

You might not know so many things yet but you take solace in knowing that you might soon. That’s how life works, right? You eventually stop buying the ugly rings from the street vendors, date the right people, and take that fucking steak back if there’s even a little bit of pink. You might not know now but you will know then."

( water marbled nails )

soooo...i follow a tumblr called fuckyeahprettynails which has a TON of nail art inspiration (for those of you who, like me, love to paint your nails...& love making them funky!) and lately i had been seeing a lot of this water marbled colour effect and loved it. i thought i'd youtube it to see just how hard it would be to do myself...well, i was pleasantly surprised at how easy it seemed so i thought i'd give it a go...

(click to enlarge to show detail...blogger just blurred the crap out of these photos)

it turns out it was not quite as easy as i thought as you have to be really quick so the nail polish doesn't harden in the water. anyway, not bad for my first try!

if you want to try it yourself, just search 'water marble nail art' & there is a bunch to choose from. next time i want to use more colours!

( saturday night, dance, i like the way you move )

as promised, here are some photos from mikey's birthday party...i didn't take a ton as i was having too much fun but here's some of the ones i did take:

also, the lumbermen played their first show in our boiling hot attic, it was a ton of fun though and they sounded so good!! i got all 'proud girlfriend' happy.

i know you're probably pretty jealous of their wicked outfits. right??

once again i've been hanging more outside of blog world than in it. i've been working a ton (having two jobs can be tiresome) but i'm also enjoying my summer. i got to head up to my cottage for a few days this past week and visit with my mum, dad & gramma so that was lovely, the weather was perfect. it's gotten insanely, insanely hot & humid here and i'm pretty much over summer. i know i know...when it's winter, we all want summer, when it's summer we want...well, i want fall. winter can go fly a kite too. i just want to layer and wear tights and boots...i love boots, i hate summer footwear.

anywho, that's all for now. i have a couple of days off this week and i am REALLY looking forward to them...like a lot, a lot!!

( my new party dress )

outfit details:

lace dress - H&M

jean jacket - thrifted

belt - thrifted

head scarf - thrifted

this dress was one of those items that i saw at my store and even though it "wasn't my style" i knew it needed to be mine. i soon realized that if i wanted it to be my style, it could be and instead of not buying this gorgeous dress because it 'wasn't me' i threw my denim jacket over it, added a belt and headscarf and bam, it felt instantly more like 'me'.

my best friend aly sent me this pretty bracelet in the mail for my birthdat. i love the colour, the words written on it and the way it wraps around my wrist multiple times. it is by a company called humanity for all and it hasn't left my wrist since i got it in the mail :)

this head scarf was also a birthday gift (from bry & jess) and i used this tutorial by keiko lynn to tie it...super easy!

i'll be posting photos from mikey's birthday party soon! but first i'm going to enjoy my day off. i worked my little butt off this past week/weekend and will be working who knows how many days straight after today so on that note, i'm going for a bike ride! enjoy your day ♥

( trend alert: acrylic laser cut rings )

i feel like these are going to be super big really soon...cheap to make & really unique, what could be better?!

probably my favourite! octopus ring...

london, england, three finger ring!

this one is so freaking cute! & only $5...

how cute are these? good day vs. bad day rings

andy loves the kitty dishes that mikey bought her for her birthday last month, aren't they adorable?? speaking of birthdays, mikeys 25th is tomorrow!

last night was the blog talk with chantilly of my girl thursday. it was fun to co-host & see everyone's pretty faces! there were a few *ahem* incidences...(hehe) but once we realized we could block people, all was well in the blog chat again. we hope to host another in a few months. it's so fun to see everyone via webcam, technology is so neat, isn't it??

( blowfish booties )

remember how i won these cute blowfish booties from the dainty squid's giveaway? well, since the canadian postal service was on strike it took me a little bit to recieve them buuuut i got them yesterday and they are lovely! i danced all night last night in them and they're nothing short of perfection, i'm obsessed!

blowfish shoes are honestly the best, most comfortable shoes i've owned. i have a few other pairs including flats, wedges and booties and have always found that i never had to break in any of them. they are so comfortable and easy to wear...not getting blisters in a pair of shoes when you first wear them is a rarity so when i find shoes that don't, i stick by them!! i'm excited to style these up and show you guys! i wore a pretty cute outfit last night (if i do say so myself) but forgot to take photos. i don't think it will be a problem them as i plan on wearing these a ton!

( blog talk )

hey guys! this is just a reminder that tonight at 8:30 est, my friend chantilly of my girl thursday will be hosting blog talk: a live video chat session where she will answer any blog related or social media questions that you have. oh, and i'll be there too, co-hosting! oooh, doesn't co-host sound fancy, i'm pretty excited! it will be hosted by tiny chat, right here and if you're shy, you don't have to do webcam, but we would like to see your pretty face!!

so stop by for a chat...or to see how incredibly burnt i got at the beach yesterday, ouch!!
