october?

holy moly. tomorrow is october 1st...

since the beginning of the summer, each month has gone by faster & faster, at quite the alarming rate! september is supposed to be my favourite month as it's filled with fall goodness but seeing as it's almost over and i barely got to enjoy it, i think i'm going to change my favourite to october. september was still pretty warm here and i want to enjoy real fall weather, so i'm welcoming october for that.

things i'm looking forward to:

♥ thanksgiving weekend (this coming)

& spending time with my family at my parents place which is my favourite place to be in the fall

♥ the lumbermen are playing a show (feels like it's been awhile!)
♥ it being cold enough to wear knitted scarves

♥ visiting one of my favourite people ever in toronto

♥ going to collingwood for my besties birthday 

♥ hallowe'en (three cheers for not leaving your costume til the last minute!)

this past week was a little nutty with work (i've been saying this for like the whole summer, haha) but i think it's finally going to be settling down because i'm only going to be working at the bar one night a week, which means i'll be getting my sanity & some time back which will feel great! i'm really looking forward to spending a few days at my parents place this weekend for some much needed R&R!

it's kind of really awesome finding something you've been looking for for a couple of months in a spot that you wouldn't expect to find it. i went into our local army surplus store the other day, in hopes of finding a jacket, instead i walked out with this russian sailor top that i will proceed to wear as a dress. it's going to look awesome with fun coloured tights in the fall too (aka now, it's cold out & i'm loving it!)

anyway, it was an awesome weekend! i'm looking forward to this week - having a girls night/goodbye dinner & drinks for a friend i worked with at h&m and my parents are coming for dinner as well! 

dan levy - treat yourself

i had a whole blog post planned on this topic & then i saw a post on twitter by dan levy from his latest article for flare magazine and well, he said everything that i wanted to say so well, that i thought you should just read his instead.

everything he said is so dead on and i really need to adapt his mentality of treating yourself to something that is worthwhile, not a temporary form of happiness...something that is actually good for your body or self.

anyway, read the article - it's a goodie! he's a smart (& sexy) man!

i mixed patterns today you guys! black & white stripes with paisley, and let me tell you i was a little apprehensive then i remembered that thing i wrote months ago about trying new things and mixing patterns was one of them and guess what? i kind of love it! i also kind of reaaaally love these boots! they are this amazingly thick leather, so soft & smell delicious! (yes i'm serious...leather is one of the best smells in the world)

back in june around the same time as my birthday, the lumbermen shot their first music video in our loft upstairs. we had a big ol' party, a couple of steam whistle kegs & all of our friends over...the end result is this:

as i'm sure you can tell, it was an awesome time. beer spitting and throwing was encouraged and it was the middle of june so basically everyone left soaking wet, haha. so much fun!

today was my day off, i had to pop into work for a few hours to do some styling for the photoshoot tonight (styling is fun...can i do that for a career please?) then mikey & i grabbed lunch, poutine [deliciously sinful. no regrets] i then came home, did some dishes, dyed my hair back to black [my roots were getting out of hand!] and painted my nails...

ugh, see? awful. i was thinking of growing my hair out...haha, that lasted pretty much all summer then i just started to feel blah & let's be honest when you're having a bad hair day it totally affects your mood, right? i kept saying i was waiting for 'reverse ombre' to come into style haha. anyway, it's amazing what a fresh colour can do to boost your mood!

soooo life lately! as i've said before, life was getting a little kooky - between working full-time at the shop & then a few [2-3] nights a week serving, it was getting to be a bit much for me. i'm a pretty social person so when i don't get to spend time with my friends and also just have 'me' time i start to lose it a little, haha. i took a week off from my serving job though, to sort of gain control of my life again. i know it sounds silly but working that much really takes a toll on me and makes me kinda crazy so this time off will be nice! i really enjoy my day job and having nights to myself and a weekend [i have this weekend off, well weekend nights i mean] is going to be glorious! i always feel like i'm missing out on stuff due to having to work or working most fridays & saturdays [which is when my friends normally go out] so i'm looking forward to this time off. after the week off i've gone down to only 1 or 2 nights a week so that will be nice.

man oh man it was a busy weekend! i worked almost 30 hours total between friday & saturday. i wore this outfit on saturday. work at the shops was super busy (as the store was) but a lot of fun as well because i got to pick out the accessories & shoes for the photo shoots that will be coming up! every year the shops do a holiday catalog and the employees are the models & we happen to have two awesome photographers on staff as well so they take the photos. shooting for this starts today, there is one shoot at the cutest little hair salon in town during the day & then at a diner tomorrow night, i'll be taking part in that one after work which will be fun! it's going to be a busy week again but i don't work quite as much as i have been which will be a nice little break...looking forward to some much-needed down time :)

holy moly, where the hell have i been?

this blog has been pretty lonely this past week & for that i apologize. i've taken on a new position at my day job (i say day job because i have a night job too - no it's not what you're thinking when you think 'night job' lol) and anyway, i've been working more hours than normal as i'm fulltime now & it hasn't left me a whole lot of time for blogging but that's okay! things are a little more back on track for me, and will be in the coming weeks as well so that means more blogging. plus my favourite season is coming too, at...some...point (dammit fall, where are you?!) i need it! i long for leggings & oversized...well, everything and scarves & boots (there are multiple new boots coming into work every week & it's like christmas for me receiving the boxes!) fall leaves me wanting a fresh wardrobe & i've been lusting after so many pieces from the shops (side note: the [shoe] shop i work for also owns 2 other stores, 1 next door is filled with levis, free people, mink pink, french connection, vero moda, bb dakota & more) and the other store is across the street (in which mikey is a manager at) sells nixon, volcom, obey, herschel, rvca, qsw etc) SOOOO needless to say it's hard not to spend every penny i earn on clothes, shoes & accessories. obey, levis & free people are three of my favourite brands ever...not to mention the shoes we carry at our store (sam edelman [♥] steve madden, laurentien chief, nine west, michael kors, toms, hunters, dolce vita, etc) um ya, so my job is awesome! wow...that was the longest side note ever & i'm pretty sure there was about a million wrong brackets...ANYWAY!

i just made a tea & andy electric is totally flirting with me, begging to be cuddled so away i go!

favourite room

i'm actually embarassed to say how long it's been since i've taken photos with my DSLR camera, oh iphones you're ruining photography! anyway, i don't even know how many months it's been but it's been too darn long. i've cleaned up my favourite room though, the room that i usually blog from (lately it's been the 'kitchen' table as it was closest to the AC) & i've put my laptop back on it's desk where it belongs...now that it's not covered in clothes & here we are, back on track. pwef!

i'm lucky enough to have an entire room all to myself. clearly i've used this to hoard house my clothing and accessories...now if only i had a third bedroom for all of my shoes, hmmm...

i've seen a ton of way cuter DIYs for necklace holders like using an old wooden window frame & nails but in the meantime i use thumbtacks. they work quite well too.

so that's my favourite room in our house, a favourite once again after months of avoiding it and using it as storage. i finally had time to give it a good clean and get it organized. i hate when my house/space is unorganized or messy...it makes my life feel all out of sorts, ya know? i've been working a lot lately and on my days off the last thing i generally want to do is clean or tidy but it had been put off long enough, it had to be done. our place got a good cleaning & it felt pretty damn good!

my blog has been a teeny bit neglected lately due to lack of time (busy, busy!) but if you miss me muchly, you can also find me blogging over here too!
